Tumble Down Dick "Call In" dismissed

Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government  has decided against calling in the Tumbledown Dick Planning Application:

“The Secretary of State has carefully considered this case against call-in policy, as
set out in the Written Ministerial Statement by Nick Boles on 26 October 2012. The
policy makes it clear that the power to call in a case will only be used very
selectively. The Government is committed to give more power to councils and
communities to make their own decisions on planning issues, and believes planning
decisions should be made at the local level wherever possible.

The Secretary of State has carefully considered the impact of the proposal, and the
key planning policy issues which this case raises. In his opinion, the proposals do
not: involve a conflict with national policies on important matters; have significant
long term impact on economic growth and meeting housing needs across a wider
area than a single local authority; have significant effects beyond their immediate
locality; give rise to substantial cross boundary or national controversy; raise
significant architectural and urban design issues; or involve the interests of national
security or of foreign Governments. Nor does he consider that there is any other
sufficient reason to call the application in for his own determination. He has
therefore decided the application should be determined at local level, and has not
called it in. The decision as to whether to grant planning permission will therefore
remain with Rushmoor Borough Council."

Planning consent has been signed and issued.

Not surprising but does not change the fact that you have let down the people of Farnborough and have destroyed the chance of something very special being established in Farnborough that would have enhanced our community. So please don't gloat.

Dear Mrs Wallace,

We shall see quickly the judgement of the 'people' of Farnborough. I admit I have let some people down, but from my perspective and discussions - definitely not the majority.

To be clear - this post is clearly not gloating - to help you I have added the definition below

(Oxford Dictionary):
Report - give a spoken or written account of something that one has observed, heard, done, or investigated.

Gloat - dwell on one’s own success or another’s misfortune with smugness or malignant pleasure

By any reasonable judgement this post is simply a report.

Cllr Clifford,

Perhaps unusually I am going to agree with you and even go so far as to thank you, this post is indeed a report and as such a vast improvement on your last Tumble based blog which did indeed look to many Farnborough residents like gloating.

I suspect a lot of people in Rushmoor BC are going to be crossing fingers etc as the reality of McDonalds becomes apparent. If, as many suspect it turns out to be more blight than bonus there will be nowhere for the gleeful, bias and incompetent to hide from the criticism.

I came into this with a belief that public officials and council members were decent, reasonable people with common sense and principles. How wrong could I be - instead I have come away realising that very few have the aptitude or attitude required for their positions.

Sounds like gloating to me. Stop being so childish and pedantic.

It was never likely to get called in. It would have been a surprise if it had. To be called in, something has to be be seriously wrong.

This is the Council plumbing new depths: extremely blessed planning Agenda, ignorant councillors who did not know what they were talking about, officials who lied to committee.

Apart from known trolls, I have yet to meet anyone who is in favour of demolishing The Tumbledown Dick for a Drive-Thru McDonald's. Without exception, people are against.

Farnborough is being taken downmarket: Drive-Thru McDonald's, 99p Store, adult amusement arcade (gambling den) ...

Do not disillusion yourself.

You have let down a very large number of people.

Do you really think people of Empress wish to see the low life that hang around Farnborough Gate at night, dragged onto their doorsteps?

They will now experience problems of traffic congestion, gridlock, pollution, vile smell of 24-hour fat frying, litter and antisocial behaviour.

All thanks to their ward councillor baldy letting them down.
